Abstract of Title: A summary of items shown in the public records which relate to a piece of property. An abstract of title simply shows what has been recorded at the courthouse. It does not insure the buyer against defects in title.

Ad valorem tax: A tax charged by a city, county, school district and other agencies which is based on the value of a piece of property.
